The Sundarbans is a UNESCO World Heritage site consists of one of the largest mangrove forests in the world. It is located in the southwestern part of Bangladesh and widely known for its wide range of fauna. It is said that the name Sundarbans might have been derived from the Sundari trees (the mangrove species Heritiera fomes) that are largely found in Sundarbans.
The total area of the Sundarbans is roughly 3,860 square miles (10,000 square km), about three-fifths of which is in Bangladesh including both land and water. About two-fifths of Sundarbans region’s overall surface area consists of mangrove forests, with water covering roughly half of that area. Three noncontiguous wildlife sanctuaries have been set up in Bangladesh’s portion of the Sundarbans.
Every corner of the forest is accessible by boat due to the interconnected waterways network. Sundarbans is mostly known for the Bengal tiger, around 260 species of birds, spotted deer, crocodiles, snakes and other species. It is the only mangrove habitat in the world for Panthera tigris species.
The present Sundarbans National Park was declared as the core area of Sundarbans Tiger Reserve in 1973 and a wildlife sanctuary in 1977. On 4 May 1984 the government declared Sundarbans a National Park. The UNESCO designated the Sundarbans as a World Heritage site in 1987.
Moreover, the Sundarbans is popular to the local as well as global visitors for its natural beauty, adventure, fear and thrilling experience. With the vision of Branding Bangladesh differently, Hat Bakso has developed the Sundarbans Fridge Magnet considering its popularity among tourists. Those who have visited there can have this magnet as a token of their visit to the place.
